“Mind the Lines” came out of a lot of time spent in the backcountry looking at lines, and a lot of time day dreaming about spines. The West coast boasts some incredibly poetic features that even a non-rider can appreciate. Snow folded over like fabric, weighted down like a heavy blanket, and plastered onto every rock outcropping like frosting or stucco. Bold, powerful, dramatic, yet soft and suggestive - hardly offering a solid angle or line.

This painting was as much fun to paint as those lines might be to ride, including the butterflies in the stomach dropping into the first line. How sweet it feels to be on the other side.
